Keeping up with coastal climates
In Nova Scotia people love to talk about the weather! Nova Scotia's coastal climate can often keep meteorologists guessing, but generally visitors should be aware that Nova Scotia is a 4 season destination: spring, summer, fall and winter.
Spring
(March -June)Throughout the spring temperatures may range from -5 C to 22 C (23 F to 72 F). Daytime temperatures are generally warmer. Temperatures gradually warm up as the season progresses and by the end of April the winter's snow is typically gone and by May the plants and trees begin to bloom. The majority or tourism related attractions and services are open by the first of May.
Summer
(June-September)Throughout the summer temperatures may range from 10 C to 25 C (50 F to 77 F). Daytime temperatures are generally warmer. Nearing the end of the season temperatures begin to cool off. All tourism related attractions and services are open and in full swing in the summer (except for the ski hills of course).
Fall
(September-December)Throughout the season temperatures may range from approximately 2 C to 20 C (36 F to 68 F). Daytime temperatures are generally warmer. Trees begin to turn color in early October and they lose their leaves by the end of October. Temperatures become cooler as the season progresses. Chances of snow in this season become more likely in late November and in December. The majority of tourism related attractions and services remain open until Mid-Late October.
Winter
(December-March)Throughout the winter temperatures may range from -10 C to 4 C (14 F to 40 F). Daytime temperatures are generally warmer and temperatures begin to warm up near the end of the season. Snow is likely throughout the season. Many seasonal tourism attractions and services are closed throughout the winter months however the winter remains a unique time to visit Nova Scotia. Many accommodations, events, urban entertainment, shopping, spas, museums, and winter activities (skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling etc.) remain available for wintertime visitors.
